Rumors of a serial killer in Taylor are untrue. Its been brought - TopicsExpress

Rumors of a serial killer in Taylor are untrue. Its been brought to my attention that some on Facebook have been speculating This in light of a murder/suicide and another suspicious death . Two weeks ago, we had what the medical examiner has ruled a murder suicide where man took his girlfriends life and then his own. This is domestic violence at its worst. Last week we had a death investigation that we continue to look into and are working closely with the medical examiners office to determine a cause of death. Those are the facts. The ability of just anyone to get on Facebook and say whatever they want creates serious issues for the police department when they are in the midst of an investigation. Unlike a legitimate media outlet, On Facebook , there is no multiple sources, no fact checking, no corroboration and no accountability. You dont even have to use your real name . Does the police department sometimes not release information to the public? Absolutely ! Its done to protect an investigation in its early stages. Thats a standard practice in all law-enforcement agencies. We may be looking for a defendant and we dont want him to know were looking for him, circumstances of the case may change very quickly and we dont want to put the wrong info out there, and most importantly, we dont want family members of victims hearing rumors and speculation before weve even had a chance to sit down and talk to them. Which has happened... Like anything, Facebook can be a great tool if used properly. But when people get on here and repeat rumors and gossip in a knee-jerk fashion in mere seconds, it creates major distractions that we just dont need. Take a second and think how you would want something handled if your loved one was a victim of crime. Ill bet we would all see it differently.
