Run Time: 1:24:50 Distance: 9.20 miles Average: 9:13 /mile Ascent: 1008 feet Descent: 998 feet Thank you to my running partners this week for giving me encouragement + inspiration; David Peck & Katrina Galderise Coleman ...& then there is James. James has 1q21.1 Microdeletion; a chromosomal change in which a small piece of chromosome is deleted in each cell. This rare disorder increases the risk of delayed development, intellectual disability, physical abnormalities, & neurological & psychiatric problems. About 75% of children with a 1q21.1 Microdeletion have delayed development, particularly affecting the development of motor skills such as sitting, standing, & walking. The intellectual disability & learning problems associated with this genetic change are usually mild. James has spent the past few weeks tackling Kindergarten & soccer practice after school. He is doing amazing & wears a smile on his face quite often. This accomplishment, despite his medical condition, is TRUE, RAW inspiration. When I am looking at a hill ahead of me, I think of him, & when I am feeling myself run out of breath, I think of him. If you happen to have anything happen to YOU this weekend that is a challenge, I hope hearing about James will also inspire you to stay tough, keep a smile on your face, and push through it.
