Running With The Bulls Harold Roy Miller The very thing happened - TopicsExpress

Running With The Bulls Harold Roy Miller The very thing happened I dreaded the most - my tired old truck gave up the ghost. I scanned the area all around and there wasn’t a ranch house to be found. My cowboy boots had a few holes, a few on the top and a few on the soles, and I knew I wasn’t going to like this painful but necessary hike. I decided I would get home a whole lot faster if I took a short cut across a pasture. So off I struck on the double, never expecting any kind of trouble. Fixing my truck consumed my brain as I traversed the gullied terrain. But as I came up over a grassy rise I got myself quite a shocking surprise. Two Brahma bulls who were extra large stood startled, mad and ready to charge. My heart was beating fast, my legs went weak, and I could hardly move or speak. Now I was in such pathetic shape there was no real hope for an escape. But off I streaked across the field, hoping that I wouldn’t be killed. I took the cow path of least resistance, heading for a tree off in the distance. It had a low hanging branch giving me, I hoped, one slight chance. I figured my odds were pretty slim of ever really reaching that tree limb, but I ran like I had never run before, spurred on by thoughts of trampled gore. My breath was short, my hamstrings hurt. I ripped off and tossed my red T-shirt. Not once did I glance back to the rear but I was sure the bulls were near. I scrambled up that cottonwood tree, then had myself a good look-see. I stared in the direction of my flight and there was not a bull in sight! It reminded me of Will Roger’s words to always look back when you’re leading the herds. It’s something that you’d want to do to make sure they’re still following you. “If you are riding ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure they’re still there.” Will Rogers
