Running away from Boko Haram: The case of the French France through its foreign ministry has condemned the attacks in the Far North region of Cameroon by the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram. In a carefully worded statement coming out of Paris for the first time ever since the inception of the Boko Haram incursion into Cameroonian territory, the French Foreign Ministry stated thatFrance condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks that hit the Far North of Cameroon. We are particularly concerned about the situation of civilians, who are the first victims of the terrorist published the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website January 13, 2015.The French Foreign Ministry statement also praised the efforts of the Cameroonian authorities and the Cameroon army and promised to provide military support to the multinational force (whose formation is being delayed by French politics) to fight against Boko Haram. Noted the French:We express our solidarity with the Cameroon authorities and to those of the Statesof the region involved in the fight against terrorism, including those in the Lake Chad Basin community”.The French authorities have ordered 10 French soldiers serving in Chad tobe sent to a special coordination andliaison military cell put in place by France in Ndjamena- Chad to counter Boko Haram. This latest French moved has been received with mixed feelings in some quarters in Yaoundé and in Abuja. Our chief political commentator hinted at the time of writing this report that the French miscalculated the political situation in Cameroon when they anticipated that the atrocities of Boko Haram Camerounaise would split the Cameroon army and the Cameroonian people.
