Rushed back to CC yesterday for our monthly YEC meeting after receiving the NDP 2014 Silver Award from Chief of Defence Force Lt-Gen Ng Chee Meng yesterday at ITE College Central. Was glad to be able to sit through most of the meeting agenda where my vice-chair was helping to chair in my absence. Really glad to be able to see many familiar faces sitting around this round (opps should be over table instead) sharing on plans to engage the residents and community for the upcoming months. This room is always fill with laughter, giggles and small little side talks). Glad that the team continue to reach out to the community. Numbers of volunteers have increase steadily over the last few years, pocket leaders are being groom to lead team of younger youth leaders guiding them in the process. More importantly, the branding of PAYM and Yew Tee CC YEC continue to amplify through many outreach events ensuring we are align to our mission of Always Reaching Out, Always Relevant and working towards our PAYM Vision - A Chapter in Every Youth. (To build PAYM to be the premiere youth organisation, and in doing so, touch the lives of every youth in Singapore in their growing-up process). PAYM was established since November 1971 and since than had continue to reach out to the residents and community through the efforts of Youth Club and its Exco Team (YEC) on the ground, SLC, IHL and other strategic partners working with the GROs. During the final part of the monthly meeting, it is my time to share stuff again. (For members reading this and wasnt able to attend the meeting yesterday due to commitment. Take some time to go thru it.) 1) Why did you choose to volunteer with Yew Tee CC YEC, and what are the reasons to allow you in continue serving the residents and community? There were many positive answers ranging from being influence and inspire by a particular person to join and serve or because they like to reach out and serve the community, they want to spend their free time serving the community while we have answers like they join because of friends, sibling, cousin and parents, while we have answers like because they just volunteer with YEC not knowing about YEC. However, one certain fact when we conclude and summarize the answer is that through the volunteer experience they are getting, through the serving experience they are getting and through the culture, that they embrace in YEC, They know why they are here and what lies ahead for them. 2) What do you understand about the YEC focus of Connecting YOUths, Touching Hearts? In the beginning of the 9th Term (Oct 2014). The YEC team discussed and together came up with a focus and direction of Connecting YOUths, Touching Hearts, which also align to our Constituency direction of Starting from the Heart @ Yew Tee. A few weeks back, one student on her assignment interviewed me on why Connecting YOUths, Touching Hearts? Connecting YOUths - How are we able to first connect the Youths in the YEC team ensuring they understand the reasons why they choose to serve, building a Family Orientated Culture in the Team and from there reaching out to other YOUths, by influencing and inspiring them through different channel to join the team in serving. Most importantly, understand why should they serve and who are they serving for? Touching Hearts - Once we get the mechanism in driving the team, effort and direction right. How are we able to deliver projects, initiatives and objectives and bring it to our residents and community? Every little single things we planned and organised comes from the Heart and through the process, we will definitely touches the hearts of the people we meet, and also to encourage them to join us in reaching out and touching the heart of more people. Kudos to my brothers and sisters in this awesome team for Believe in our common Belief and Serving the Community from the Heart.
