Russell Hawkins, 76, of Shelbyville, died on Saturday, the 20th day of December, 2014, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. Born in Frankfort, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Adolph William Russell Hawkins, Sr., and Mary Frances Tinsley Hawkins. He was a founding member and deacon of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. A former member and deacon of the Highland Baptist Church in Shelbyville, he played the guitar and led the music in the preschool department for over forty years. For over forty-two years, he led a devotional and music at the Colonial Halls Nursing Home in Shelbyville. He was an auto mechanic and worked for several companies including Pearce Motor Company, Shelby Motor Company, and Southern States Cooperative. Afterward, he owned and operated Hawkins Auto Repair. He also served his country in the U. S. Army. His survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Rozelle W. Hawkins; his sons, Dr. Rusty Hawkins and his wife, Dr. Heidi Hawkins, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Rodney Hawkins of Louisville; his daughter, Cheri Cagle and her husband, Reverend Greg Cagle, of Buckner; and his four grandchildren, Paxton Russell Cagle, Hadley Louise Hawkins, Savannah Rose Cagle, and Howdy Lynn Hawkins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P. M., Tuesday, the 23rd day of December, 2014, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Reverend Kevin Kimes and Reverend Bill George officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Monday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Debt Retirement Fund of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
