Russia is not technologically ready to begin full-scale - TopicsExpress

Russia is not technologically ready to begin full-scale development of hydrocarbon deposits on the Arctic shelf at least in the next 10-12 years. This opinion was expressed by the president of the Union of Oil and Gas Industrialists Gennady Schmal, speaking at a conference on oil and gas industry growth and modern economic policy. According to Mr. Schmal, Russia is neither technologically not technically and economically ready to begin development of the Arctic shelf. Schmal recalled the 15 years construction of Russias only ice platform Prirazlomnaya and the ever increasing price tag that came along. The president of the Oil and Gas Union is convinced that the country needs to have more than a dozen such drilling platforms and infrastructural development at Murmansk, Arkhangelsk and other northern cities to seriously start Oil and Gas extraction from the Artic.
