Russian invasion of Ukraine Astrology says that military action that is started during a Mars Retrograde is likely to fail. That is not to say that there is no bloodshed or violence – just that the outcome is a failure. CNN news reports that Russian President Putin has sent troops into neighboring territories and while he has not declared his intentions, and so far has denied the objective of military intervention, it seems clear that he plans to intervene in any uprising. Putin has Sun and three planets in Libra, which are all about to be affected by the transiting Mars retrograde. NOTE: Transit planets are what is taking place in the sky. The transit planet (in this case Mars moving in Retrograde) makes contact and moves on, but while it is in contact with a point in the natal (internal) chart, the planet triggers a reaction, which can either be easy, or difficult. When transit Mars activates the natal chart, the reaction is an angry, look-at-me response, and if it meets any resistance or protest will give rise to escalating fighting words and actions. Mars in retrograde reacts more strongly than when it is in direct (forward) motion. Some years ago, when transit Mars (retrograde) was in contact with my Sun, I remember walking across the parking lot outside Mrs. Green’s in Larchmont and a mini-van backed out as I was walking behind it. I banged on the back window and then went around to the driver’s side and smacked the window. An elderly gentleman rolled it down and I said, “Did you see me?” “Er… no..” he said, “but you saw me.” “It’s for drivers to look for pedestrians, not pedestrians to look for cars,” I said. He started pulling out and I banged my fist on his front windscreen. “You hit someone and they will take your license away for a long time.” While my response was mild, compared to sending in guns and troops, it has a similar tone to the sabre-rattling effect that we are getting from Putin. For him, the transit effect of Mars, continues for many weeks, President Putins progressed chart is also under stress. (Mercury stationery about to go direct, Venus progresses into Aquarius in April, P Moon just moved into Libra.) Most likely he is feeling the internal shifts as a need to be heard and make a move, and he is projecting this internal anger and stress onto a world stage. (We all do that.) With all this going on, he feels out of balance, and when a Libra Sun Sign feels unsteady, they get nervous and thrash about. I would predict that Putin is about to become more vocal (progressed Mercury direct) and if things dont go well in the Ukraine, he will have to retire from public office.
