Ruth Jacobs commented on this Melanie Phillips post with the question whether what we see here is anti-Semitism or perhaps just fear of Arab violence. Im thinking Ruth Jacobs is onto something that needs attention. I agree that what we sometimes call anti-Semitism may actually be to a large extent fear of Muslim terrorism. The latter certainly has had its place in history ever since Muslim aggression began with Mohammed. Sorry Melanie, but particularly in the history of Britains handling of the Palestine Mandate and its thorough shafting of the Jews on whose behalf they were entrusted with the Mandate. Instead they betrayed the Jews, but were not at all successful in appeasing the Arabs. Witness the conflict there now. At the risk of sounding alarmist, this fear of Arab violence is justified not just in Great Britain but around the world. Arabs themselves fear violence from other Arabs; witness Syria, Iraq, Egypt and the list can include every Arab country; violence against Jews, Christians, women and anyone not quite what those in control like to see. I know type-casting is not politically correct, and I am not suggesting that all Arabs are violent, but when we check violent situations that make the news, they tend to involve Islamist motivation. The list above is a start, but in various countries in Europe, or in America and Canada, not all, but most demonstrations that turn violent are initiated by Islamic protest of one kind or another. We need to be strong an stand up to the threat; that will require intense PRAYER.
