S.O.A.P. 8/18/2014 Scripture: Genesis 48:17-19 17. When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand in Ephraims head he was displeased; so he took hold of his fathers hand to move it from Ephraims head to Manassehs head. 18. Joseph said to him, No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head. 19. But his father refused and said, I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations. Observation: There are two things that are quite evident in scripture. One, God does not break his covenant. Even in our best efforts to undermine it. Two, Gods will is going to be done. Even in our best efforts to fight against it. In this story Joseph felt the right of passage should have been through genealogical order. However, Israel was so connected with God at this point in his life he knew his will was for Ephraim to receive the blessing. Application: In our study of Genesis we have read the stories of these great men being in direct conversation with God or through an intermediary in his Angels. Now, if all of these people have such a hard time following Gods will with this great access. How important should it be for us to be in a constant state of prayer and contact through his word? The answer is simple. Its not just important, its imperative! Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for the wisdom imparted to us through your word. I ask that you would bind your word to our hearts and minds so that we can understand your will not only for our lives, but for those who come within our sphere of influence. So that we can be busy doing Kingdom work instead of worldly deeds. Thank you again for rescuing us from death so that we may have life abundantly. I pray this in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen! What verse stood out to you?
