S.O.S CHILDREN’S VILLAGE ADMITS EBOLA ORPHANS By Alusine Kargbo, Makeni National Director of Save Our Souls (SOS), Olatungie Emanuel Ekundayo Woode on 15th and 16th November 2014 made a donation of items worth millions of Leones to care givers in the Ebola hotspot areas in the Bombali Shebora chiefdom in Makeni On 23rd January 2015, he admitted children orphaned by Ebola into the SOS children’s village in Makeni. The ceremony was witnessed by the SOS children’s village Makeni, Deputy Regional Director North attached to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Josephine P. Saccoh, staff of the SOS children’s village and other dignitaries. The National Director disclosed that SOS was established to care for orphans and ensure that they become useful citizens as one of their primary objectives. He further warned the mothers at the village to do all they can to ensure the livelihood of these children. She maintained that extended family members of these children should be visiting the village to get themselves acquainted as it is very important for them to know their origin when they would have become useful citizens in the near future. Josephine Saccoh, Ministry of Social Welfare Deputy Director North expressed delight over the good work of SOS since its establishment especially at a time like this when most children have become orphans as a result of Ebola. She further stated that the SOS children’s village together with the philanthropic National Director has contributed greatly to nation building disclosing that the ages of the orphaned children are between 1year-6 months and 7years. The village Director, SOS children’s village Makeni, Aruna Papay Conteh heartily welcomed the children and maintained that this is a golden opportunity most people want for their children but could not meet the benchmark. He added that children are assets that should be treated with care. He revealed that the village environment is suitable for human habitation.
