S-West PDP chieftains at war over national scribe’s appointment IBADAN — CHIEFTAINS of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South West are now at war over the vacant position of a new National Secretary of the party after the removal of the former Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola by a court order. As a result of alleged marginalisation of the zone in the distribution of elective positions in spite of tremendous support by members of the party for the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan, the position of the scribe was conceded to the zone. But, now a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Bode George is presenting a candidate from Lagos State while the incumbent zonal caretaker chairman, Ishola Filani and other executive members have appointed another person, Professor Adewale Oladipo from Osun State to fill the same vacancy. Speaking on the clash of interest, Filani, after an extra-ordinary zonal congress of the party in Ibadan, said, “Bode George has been taking wrong steps. “How he came about putting a Lagos man in the position belonging to Osun State in line with the court order was not known to us.” He quoted the court order marked suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/504/2012, saying, “An order is hereby granted directing the 3rd defendant (Independent National Electoral Commission) to rectify the records of the 2nd defendant (PDP) by deleting the name of the 1st defendant (Oyinlola) as the National Secretary of the 2nd defendant. “And replacing same in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the 1st defendant with candidate nominated at a valid congress of the South-West zone chapter of the 1st defendant to be held within 21 days of the order of the court.”
