SA can be very proud to host an excellent event viewed and admired worldwide, the Santos Tour Down Under a UCI World Tour Event. Everyone has been expecting a great race, to be the last for well know Australian rider Cadell Evans, with most hoping he might win the event. The racing has been fantastic all week and todays Bike Exchange Stage 5 (Saturday 24th) was no different. There were so many highlights. Many were pleased to see South Aussie Jack Bobridge (team UniSA-Australia) who had worn the Ochre Jersey for the first two days hand on as the only one left in a break-away to beat the peleton over the giant killer Old Willunga Hill on the second last lap to claim the lead in the King of the Mountain with 36 points, just beating Rohan Dennis on 34 points. The excitement continued right to the very end as Australian Richie Porte (Sky) powered away from the small group of featured hill climbers as if it was a sprint, riding up the Old Willunga Hill in the final last sharp climb to the finish line. He had hoped his time was good enough to get the Ochre Jersey, but it was not to be, meaning the race leader by a slim 2 secs was Australian Rohan Dennis (BMC) had taken up the challenge behind him trying to stick there and finished close enough to hold on to the Ochre Jersey by that slim margin. Retiring verteran Australian rider Cadell Evans (BMC) did himself proud, finishing only 20 seconds behind in the overall General Classification currently in 3rd place (only one day to go). Although not a Jersey to show for it, he has still shown his great fighting spirit and that will to win, a great way to finish his racing career. All the best Cadell Evans. A comment from Cadell as he spoke to Paul Sherwen from Channel 9 straight after the race. Its been absolutely unbelievable, the whole week and today. Its like youre riding a stage of the Tour or the Giro, its unbelievable. (source: TDU Live Feed) PS Still an exciting day to go tomorrow!
