SACP Western Cape Press Statement DA continues to foment black on black violence within the working class communities Wednesday, 5 March 2014, Cape Town Following the dispute between two communities near Mitchell’s Plain, the Mayor of the City of Town, Patricia De Lille visited the area on Monday 3rd March 2014. The pertinent matter on the table is the tension between the residents from the Colorado and those in the informal settlement of Siqalo. Residents from both the communities expected the mayor’s presence at the proposed meeting would at least provide a clear direction towards the resolution of the standoff. Contrary to what the community expected, the DA mayor employed the now ever common stratagem of divide and rule. Once again the boardroom mayor of the City of Cape Town was rejected by working class residents, a mass-based expulsion of a political chameleon driving the DAs election gimmickry and Apartheid era tactic occurred. This follows a similar occurrence played out in Philippi Ward 80 last year, where working class residents rejected the Mayors arrogant imposition on the community. Having failed to adequately engage the community at a grassroots level due to the lack of conscience realty of the subjectivities in working class areas, DA officials in general and the Mayor in particular have been left publicly humiliated and wanting due to their political shortfalls and ideological failures. Thus the City Mayor has resorted to hiding behind the palisades of Council buildings, only creeping out on the eve of elections and on the order of the despotic Helen Zille. The mayor’s term of office has illustrated an objective and delusional administration, instead of person-to-person engagements with working class communities, the Mayor opts for boardroom conference calls, the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor from her palace as well as hiring consultants and middle men to handle her dirty work. This negligent attitude confirms the Partys understanding that the DA has no concern or interest in resolving socio-economic disparities in the province, more specifically the dire new to address the housing and sanitation crisis. Her rejection in our communities is informed by her dismal track record of failing to provide better services to the poor people of the City. It is against this background that the Mayor should finally come to the realisation that working class communities have zero confidence in her ability to administer services to communities. As the SACP we are greatly concerned that the DA in the city as well the province has become the arch-architect and instigator of black on black violence as evidenced by similar occurrences in Grabouw last year. Clearly in its attempt to regain lost ground due to political blunders, the DA, out of utter desperation resorts to total onslaught tactics of manipulation, deceit and divide and rule.
