SAD DEATH OF A YOUNG WOMAN 1892 During the night of the 20th of November 1892 a young woman named Margaret Cameron, aged 23, disappeared from her fathers house at Connongorach, about l8 miles from Natimuk. Cameron had previously been confined in the Ararat Lunatic Asylum and was said to be very queer at times. The following morning she was seen by a Mrs. Hutchinson about five miles from her home, wandering aimlessly along, with scarcely any clothing on. Mrs. Hutchinson tried to detain her, but could not. Constable Maher, of Noradjuha, searched for her every day until the 25th of November, but without success. On the morning of the 26th a number of civilians offered to help the police, and search, with the result that the body of the unfortunate young woman was found in the Northern Creek, some 10 miles from home. The body was recovered, and showed every appearance of having been in the water for at least two days. It is stated that the deceased had frequently wandered away before, and at one time she was found in the Grampian Ranges.
