SADDEST DAY OF THE YEAR—THANKSGIVING Tomorrow I will be sad. In - TopicsExpress

SADDEST DAY OF THE YEAR—THANKSGIVING Tomorrow I will be sad. In fact, I am already sad. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. My favorite holiday. But not one person around me will acknowledge it. Tomorrow will simply be Yom Chamishi—Thursday—in Israel. Unless you have lived overseas it is hard to explain the emotions you go through missing ‘stuff’. In your first year miss everything. You wake up one day and realize that you have not seen your mother or father in three months. You start to long for things you didn’t even think you liked—like McDonalds (my first year was in Ukraine, not Israel). And when you go back to you home city, every corner of every block is special. I dont go through this anymore—except on Thanksgiving. America is an amazing country. Special. Unique in so many ways. And tomorrow I will miss being there. On Friday night we will gather with several other Israeli/American families and eat Turkey. It’s great—I am thankful for it. We have been doing it with the same families for about seven years. But the leaves will not have changed color, there will be no NFL games on T.V. and most of all, my parents, my sister and my two oldest daughters won’t be there. But I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. God bless you all and God bless America! (and Israel)
