SADE - FOLASADE HELEN ADU Born in the year, 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Her fathers name is Professor Adebisi Adu married to a British Woman, Anne Hayes in 1955. They had two children for each other, Banji and Folasade. Sade Adu released her first singles in 1983 called Smooth Operator and her debut album in 1984 called Diamond Life, sold over 1.2 million albums in UK, 500,000 albums and 2.5 million cassettes in Nigeria. Reach No.2 spot in British top 10 for 10 weeks. No.1 in Nigeria for 12 weeks and top 20 for 20 weeks in Nigeria. Also top charts in other African countries, No.10 in USA. Sold over 4 million copies worldwide. Second Album, Promise released in late 1985 sold over 7 million worldwide while Nigeria bought up to 4 million cassettes and 1.1 million records because some people cannot avoid to pay #3 - #5 to buy an album instead they buy studio album in cassette (70k - #1.00). Sades second album hit No.1 in Britain, Nigeria, USA and some African countries. In 1986, the band got 2 Grammy Awards - The best Female Artists and best new song. From 1984 to 1986, Sade dominated most of Nigeria Grammy Award winning most of the female awards. The band was nominated in American and Brit Grammy Awards in 1986, 87, 89, 2001 and 2002 respectively.
