SAFETY #40 Philippians 3:10 - “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” What does His death look like? Let’s consider Hebrews 12:1-4 to find out. Hebrews 12:1-4 describe that moment for us. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.” The writer describes the course laid out for us as weights and sins. That’s all the fun things that distract and hinder us. Yeah, the fun things. I’d rather be fishing the bumper sticker says or sailing or playing with my grandchildren or … well you know them as well as I do. And there’s sin. Sin is attractive. I like sin because it’s fun and pleasurable and makes me feel like I’m important; it tastes good and feels good and looks good and makes me feel good about myself. The lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life are attractive. But they’ve got to go if I want the cross. If I want the inexpressible joy, I have to go to the cross daily. “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?” So said Jesus in Luke 9:23-25. He didn’t sugar coat it or stutter when He said it. There is the path of joy right before us. Do I want it? Do you want it? Enough to take up the cross to get it??? Every day? The cross is found every day in laying aside every weight and sin. What else do you suppose? https://youtube/watch?v=RfQy9aeMeIc
