SAINT OF THE DAY: St Narcissus was the 30th Bishop of Jerusalem. - TopicsExpress

SAINT OF THE DAY: St Narcissus was the 30th Bishop of Jerusalem. Three incorrigible sinners accused him of a crime under oath, one wishing he might perish by fire, another that he might be struck with a leprosy, and the third that he might lose his sight, if what they alleged was not the truth. Their accusations did not prosper but divine vengeance pursued them. The first was burnt in his house by an accidental fire; the second was struck with leprosy; and the third, terrified by these examples, confessed the conspiracy and slander, and by the abundance of tears which he continually shed for his sins, lost his sight before his death. Saddened about the calumny Narcissus went into seclusion but reappeared so many years later to resume his service to the flock.
