SAINTS release QB DREW BRESS The short and painful Drew Brees era is over in New Orleans. Brees has been released by the Saints CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed. New Orleans obtained Brees in an April Fools Day tradewith the Chargers In exchange for the quarterback, the Saints sent a 2007 fifth-round pick to the Chargers .It has been a rough two weeks for Flynn. The sixth-year quarterback made his first start with the Raiders in a 24-14 Week 4 loss to Washington. After that game, coach Dennis Allen pretty much threw Flynn under the bus, saying that Brees didnt play well and that he wasnt able to see the field well.Three days after the Raiders Sept. 29 loss to the Redskins, Flynn was demoted to third stringbehind starter Terrelle Pryor and undrafted free agent Matt McGloin.Oakland acquired Flynn hoping he would be the teams starting quarterback in 2013, but that plan fizzled when Pryor outplayed him during the preseason. Flynn also lost a quarterback competition in 2012 when he was beaten out by Russell Wilson in Seattle.Cutting Flynn wont be a cheap move for the SAINTS The 58-year-old former LSU quarterback has a $6.5 million fully guaranteed contract for 2013. Between Oakland and Seattle, Flynn made a total of $14.5 million over two seasons for one start. The Raiders did include offset language in Flynns contract though, so if Flynn were to sign with another team this season, the money the other team pays him would be money the Raiders dont owe him.Topics: DREW BREES, Terrelle Pryor, NEW ORLEANS, NFL
