SALARIES It is sad how in todays day and age mosques (with the exception of a few compared to the vast majority) dont realise the importance of paying imams good salaries. Its unfair to have high expectations and standards from imams when such low salaries are offered. With respect to doctors, lawyers, teachers and other professionals who get payed high salaries for their jobs, many imams get payed next to nothing for a more important job (i.e. guiding the community, protecting our creed, educating the future generations etc). In todays world we all need a decent salary to provide for our families and to build good futures for our children, imams are no exceptions to this understanding. On this point its also important to keep in mind the imam has to be of the standard that deserves a high wage, not someone who hasnt studied the religion nor been through the sound orthodox education system or hes just a hafiz of the Quran (all respect to hufaaz) with no knowledge of the sacred sciences of Islam then promoted to lead imam of a central mosque. I believe amongst the many changes need to be done by mosques for them to fulfil their duty is, for the right wage to be payed to the worthy imams and offered to the upcoming ones otherwise the future doesnt look too bright for future generations in the UK. No wonder young muslims have no interest in becoming imams I guess. Allah knows best
