SALUTE! SIR WEDSON WADA WADA NYIRENDA was the first to guide a Zambian club, Zanaco in 2010, to the group stages of the CAF Club Confederations Cup. The Bankers eliminated Enyimba with the best first half performance I have ever seen by any Zambian team at any level with a 4-0 win. Eugene Shamakamba, Matthews Macha, Ignatius Lwipa and Winstone Kalengo scored all in the first half. It was the Elephants of Nigerias worst result in continental football. The second leg ended 2-0 in favour of the West Africans. Zanaco finished second from bottom in a group consisting all Arabs i.e FUS Rabat and Haras both of Morocco and Setif of Tunisia. 6 points-one win and 3 draws. So Nkana is the second in this competition. It is in the Champions League that Zesco Utd remain the only club to have reached the group phase in 2009 under Fighton Simukonda. Many argue though that the Zeso Utd side which qualified then was built by Nyirenda who won back to back titles in 2007 and 2008 before he joined the bankers. In 2009, the Power Dynamos legend whose two goals helped the Kitwe glamour side become the first and only side in Zambia to capture the same competition then known as the Nelson Mandela or Africa Club Cup Winners Cup in 1991 over two legs 5-4 against Benue Cement Company (BCC) Lions of Nigeria, won the title with Zanaco and represented the country in Africa the following year and reached the group stages after falling from the Champions League. Salute Sir Wedson Nyirenda!
