Another officer that arrived to assist was struck by flying debris after the patrol vehicle suddenly exploded. This officer sustained minor injuries. The San Francisco Fire Department arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire. The injured officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The officer is expected to recover fully from his injuries. A vehicle fire can develop for various reasons. It is important to properly maintain your vehicle, but even the best maintained vehicles can be susceptible. If you notice smoke or flames coming from your vehicle: - Immediately exit the roadway and pull over to safe location. - Exit your vehicle and stand clear. Find a safe place for cover, if possible. - Call 9-1-1 immediately and report the vehicle fire. - Remember, your life is more valuable than property. Never re-enter a burning vehicle.
