SAN FRANCISCO, CA - On September 5 through September 6, 18 members of the California Highway Patrol, Golden Gate Division Motorcycle Squad, along with 64 other allied agency motorcycle riders from the United States, Canada and Mexico, participated in a training and exhibition event sponsored by the San Francisco Police Department. CHP personnel representing the communities of San Francisco, Santa Rosa, San Jose, Marin, and Hayward Areas competed in the event. The event focused on riders ability to maneuver through cone patters that test control of the motorcycle itself, and include sensitive clutch throttle ability. An A Class category included riders that have participated in other motorcycle competitions and had placed in the top slots. The B Class category included riders new to competition and those who had competed before but had not placed. The officers were timed and scored as they maneuvered through the grueling tight courses. Several CHP Officers took top slots in the competition: Officer Anthony Gioletti, San Jose Area Office, 1st Place - BMW A Class Officer Matthew Sobers, San Jose Area Office, 2nd Place - BMW B Class Officer Josh Smith, San Francisco Area Office, 3rd Place - Harley Davidson B Class Officer Dominic Marchewka, San Francisco Area Office, 2nd Place - Kawasaki B Class Sergeant John Evans, Santa Rosa Area Office, 3rd Place - BMW B Class “The CHP is proud of its officers and the time they spend maintaining proficiency of a perishable skill and then transferring their abilities as they compete in friendly competitions hosted by our allied agency partners,” stated Chief Avery Browne of the Golden Gate Division. “On a daily basis they are required to respond to emergency calls and or calls for service and their safe and quick responses translate to lives saved.
