SARATOGA NEEDS YOU!! Almost a year ago we rescued Saratoga, a young cream point himalayan. She had been found in a drainage ditch - terribly matted, horrible ear infections, awful eye infection, upper respiratory infection. You name it, Sara had it. It took several months of rehab, but Sara became a happy, healthy little girl. In January Saratoga adopted out to what we thought was a great home. Flash forward to last week. I get an email from the adopter saying that Saratoga was just too much maintenance for her - that Sara could not do anything for herself. Im still confused by what she thought a CAT is going to do for themselves (you know, they dont have opposable thumbs or anything like that!!). But according to the adopter, Saratoga is nasty - that she needs her eyes cleaned every day (wait - persians have eye discharge issues????), that she needs her bottom cleaned daily (well, when you dont do a hygiene trim, wtf do you expect???), that she needs to bathed TWICE A WEEK (???????). It was also implied that Sara was having litterbox issues. The adopter would not answer any of the questions I asked - if she was having litterbox issues how long has this been going on? how many litterboxes were in the home? has Sara been taken to the vet? what kind of litterbox? what kind of litter? ect? ect? .....questions asked four times, never once answered. We were finally able to get Saratoga back this evening. The condition that Saraotoga is in almost caused me to cry. She is again terribly matted. It was very obvious that the adopter tried to cut mats out of Saras coat with a scissors. AND SARA HAS SEVERAL OPEN WOUNDS WHERE THE SKIN WAS CUT OPEN WITH THE SCISSORS!!!! We will be taking Saratoga in to the vet first thing tomorrow. A complete exam will be conducted. Any further evidence of abuse/neglect with be documented. Due to the terrible experiences Sara has obviously with grooming, I do believe it would be much less stressful for her to be sedated and shaved down. And if they have to sedate her to stitch shut her wounds, it would be that much easier to shave her at that time. Donations to cover Saratogas medical bills is needed and would be very appreciated!!! Donations can be made through the Flowers for Pua fund at: youcaring/medical-fundraiser/flowers-for-pua/198622. Please designate in the comments that the donation is for Saratoga. Thank you for helping us help Saratoga!!!! Beth Anderson South Texas Persian Rescue
