SARLES, Carman Gilbert - Express Condolences Sarles_Carman(October 12th, 1924 – January 21st, 2015) Passed away peacefully at Extendicare Nursing Home, Oshawa after an extended illness, Carman Gilbert, beloved husband and lifelong partner for over 65 years of Helen (nee Carruthers) of Whitby. Dear father of Gordon (Gayle) of Richmond Hill, ON and David (Marta) of Calgary, AB. Dear grandfather of Cera, Michael and Tom. Adored great grandfather of Jordyn. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Jean and his brothers William and John. Survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces. Carman will be dearly remembered as a loving and devoted family man who had many interesting hobbies, including Radio Controlled Model Airplanes. He was well respected in the Whitby community since his arrival in 1953. Carman’s dedication to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church was something of which he was very proud, being an elder and volunteer for over 50 years. He was a proud teaching professional for 39 years and a principal for 38 years, retiring in 1984. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to all the caring and compassionate caregivers at Extendicare who made Carman’s last four years comfortable for him. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Sunday, January 25th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m.
