SARPANCH WANTS TO RESIGN ! Met a Sarpanch recently who is educated and appears to be sincere in his work. He runs a business and has his own source of income . He wanted to resign though his term is yet to run the full 5 year course ! I was curious as to why should someone give up this post ! He was appalled by deep corruption in the Panchyati Raj Department ! He said that the district authorities like Sub Collector /BDO who were supposed to visit the GP for field inspection and records checking invariably summoned him to visit their office with the records . Every BDO or other inspecting authority wanted a bribe for passing the books ! I agreed fully with him since in the NaPa regime, corruption has not only become widespread but institutionalised in Odisha and publics funds are being swindled which is leading to poverty and growth of LWE . It is common knowledge that the Panchayati Raj Deptt which spends thousands of crores of development and public funds is one of the most corrupt depths of Odisha Govt. Recently, the Departments Secretary-cum -Commissioner was in the news for allegedly getting his PA to write to all District Collectors giving a clean chit to a chit fund Company !
