SAS Geelani again placed under house arrest News By:ANANTNAG OBSERVER Srinagar, Jan 1 While commenting over the news report published in a prominent English daily that “A pro- freedom leader called on Peoples’ Democratic Party patron”, Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar Thursday said that the source which have revealed this information have moral obligation to identify the person who have met Mufti Muhammad Sayed and discussed the government formation with him. “Without naming any person, this type of news creates different kinds of doubts in the minds of people and it can create misunderstanding about the pro- freedom camp,” he said in a statement Meanwhile, Akbar said Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has been again placed under house detention as police have been deployed at the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Head office to prevent him from coming out. While terming house detention as “state terrorism”, he condemned this action in strong words and said “The police are deliberately complicating the situation by restoring to such means. Geelani sahib was although released some 9 days ago but on Wednesday evening a large contingent of police once again blocked the main entrance gate and informed the staff that he can’t move out of his house. This order was once again given in verbal form and no court order or any administrative document was produced for this unjust house arrest,” he said. “The process of house detention of Geelani sahib was started in July 2010 however after the recent floods hit the state in 2014 the process was stopped. This unjust detention was again started with the announcement of election drama and then the police was temporary lifted for 9 days only. Geelani was about to address the people at Masjid Hamza Amirakadal on 2 January 2015 Friday but the police surrounded his residence on Wednesday evening and once again placed him under house arrest,” Akbar added. While commenting over the fresh phase of house arrest of Geelani, Hurriyat (G) spokesman said, “It is the sheer hooliganism of police and with respect to the consequences this policy can be no way any positive effort. This act is equivalent to the grave violation of the ones democratic and basic rights. When the peaceful political activities of people are banned then a section of people explore other options which increase the political uncertainty in the state,” he said. The Hurriyat (G) appealed all the human rights organizations to take serious notice of the illegal house detention of Geelani and use their influence for his release.
