SASCO will continue to struggle for better conditions in our campuses informed by amongst other things the following; SOUTH AFRICAN STUDENTS’ CONGRESS • Student societies’ transport (Mini buses for societies). • Intercampus bicycles to complement shuttle service and promote healthy life style among students. • Building of adequate student accommodation in our institutions. • Ensuring that Libraries are improved. We are also calling for construction of an off-campus library. • Improved Computer Labs and printing facilities. • Building of good catering facilities. • Building of adequate Lecture facilities. • Qualified Lecturers with proper pedagogic training. • Adequate Academic support programmes. • Extended and foundation programmes. • Improved access of transportation shuttle services for all students • Adequate Sporting facilities. • Improve student Clinics, Ambulances and Counselling facilities. • Advocate for study rooms in residences. • More wireless internet facilities in residences and around campuses. • Proper orientation programmes for first year students. • Improved Budget for SRCs and student clubs and societies. • Introduce more Community Development Programmes. • Vibrant student life and entertainment. • Adequate in-service training and internships. • Champion awareness about STIs and HIV/AIDS. • Clean governance and management. • Adequate career guidance and graduate recruitment information facilities. We will expand Operation Sangena to reach more disadvantaged areas. • Transformation and eradication of racism. • Adequate facilities for students with disabilities. • Ensure safety and security of our students and institutional facilities. • Capable SRC leaders, who are committed and account to students as well as encourage institutional transformation. • Transformation of Curriculum to reflect the developmental imperatives of our country. • Fight against excessive increase of entrance points to exclude the poor and marginalised. • Struggle against negative marking and other instruments used to academically exclude students. • Fight against racialized exclusions. • Struggle for emancipation of women, i.e. increase of female postgraduate students and academic staff. We call upon all students to go out in their number to Vote for SASCO in ensuring that you contribute towards a transformed higher education and training and a transformed society in general. Together we can Retain the ‘R’ in the SRC.
