SATANS CONFESSION Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah made me in-charge of the Zakah (charity) collected in the month of Ramadan. Someone came to the store and started scooping up some of the foodstuff. I caught him and said, I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him). The man said, I am in great need as I have dependents. I therefore left him. The following morning the Prophet of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him) asked me, O Abu Hurayrah! What did your captive do last night (yesterday)? I said, He complained of his need and his family so I took pity on him and released him. The Prophet (Blessings and peace be upon him) said, But he lied to you and he will be back again I then knew that he will (surely) come again as the Messenger of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him) has said so. I did watch for him (the next day). He came again and began collecting the eatables. I caught him and said, I will produce you to the Messenger of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him). He said, Leave me, I have children and I am in real need. I shall not come again. I took pity on him and left him to his way. The Prophet (Blessings and peace be upon him) said, He lied and will be back again. I did watch for him the third time. He came and collected foodstuff I caught him and said, This is the third time, I must produce you before the Messenger of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him) now. You claim each time that you will not be back, but still you are. He said, Let me go and I will teach you some words by which Allah will reward you. I asked what those words are. He said, Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat al-Kursee, for then a guardian from Allah will be guarding you, and Satan will not be able to approach you, till next day. I then left him. The next day, the Messenger of Allah asked me, What did your captive do last night O Abu Hurayrah? I said, O Messenger of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him)! He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah would do me good. So I left him. The Prophet asked what it was. I told the Prophet that he (the captive) said that whenever you go to bed recite Ayat al-Kursee from the beginning to the end. He (the captive) said, There will be a guard for you from God and Satan will not be able to reach you till next morning. The Messenger of Allah (Blessings and peace be upon him) said, He told you the truth, although he is (virtually) a liar. O Abu Hurayrah, do you know to whom you have been talking these last three days? I said, No. He said, It was Satan himself. (Bukhari) SubhanAllah
