SATURDAY, 26TH JULY 2014 THIS IS YOUR DAY – MAKE THE MOST OF IT “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” (Heb 11:39-40) The eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews is generally known as the chapter of faith. It bears record of the great and mighty things that men and women who have walked the earth before us did by the use of their faith. The writer shares how that through faith some subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness and stopped the mouth of lions. It tells of those who quenched the violence of fire by their faith as well as those who escaped the edge of the sword. Then it talks about the ones who were made strong out of weakness, waxed valiant in fight and turned the armies of the aliens to flight. You can go on and on reading about what these men and women achieved by the working of their faith but it becomes more interesting when you get to verse thirty-nine! Now, he tells us that though these heroes of faith obtained a good report, they did not receive the promise! In other words, the best they achieved was to answer a good conscience before God without having the real thing. This was not because of something they didn’t do correctly but because God in His sovereignty had a plan. You may be wondering what plan God could possibly have that made it impossible for men like David, Daniel, Abraham and the rest to obtain the promise of God. Well, I will tell you. The plan was that without us, they should not be made perfect. Without us, they should not be complete. Just as in a relay race, it doesn’t matter how well others have run, until the man running the last lap is through, the race is not over. We are the ones to bring in the completion to what these men started. It is the working of our faith that should bring the wholeness into the matter. Little wonder why we have been given an even more superior kind of faith to live by. Don’t you cower at the challenges and issues of life anymore for when put to work, your faith can do more than bringing Goliath down. Yours can move mountains!!!
