*** SATURDAY, JANUARY 3 – 9:00PM CST UPDATE *** Sharyland Working Nonstop through Weekend to Restore Power in West Texas Service Territories; Additional Outages on Saturday Due to High Winds & Melting Ice; Estimates ~14,000 Customers Currently without Power throughout Region (DALLAS, TEXAS) Sharyland Utilities is reporting that our crews will be working nonstop throughout the weekend to restore power to our West Texas customers after widespread outages occurred Friday afternoon and evening due to ice storms throughout the region. Sharyland crews have been working continuously since Friday afternoon with an immediate focus on restoring power to our residential customers, and Sharyland has brought in additional contract crews to help with the effort. On Saturday, our West Texas customers experienced additional outages due to high winds and warmer temperatures. This caused melting ice to fall off of the power lines in chunks, which put additional strain on poles and wires and caused additional outages. Sharyland estimates that as of 9:00PM CST Saturday evening, approximately 14,000 Sharyland customers are still without power throughout Borden, Ector, Fisher, Glasscock, Howard, Martin, Midland, Mitchell, Nolan, Reagan, Scurry, Sterling, and Upton counties. At this time, we do not have an estimate on when power will be restored to all customers. However, updates are available through our new online system outage map found at sharyland/outage. Customers are also reminded to never touch or attempt to move a downed power line and to call us immediately at 800-545-4513 if they experience an outage. In the meantime, Sharyland encourages those customers without power and needing special care, such as the elderly or those needing medical attention, to seek shelter with friends, family, or other publicly- available facilities. We thank our customers for their patience.
