Red Skelton and "The Dark Knight" - CONTINUED #3 If Heath Ledger did go to Red Skelton for the key to unlocking the style, quirks, persona of "The Joker" in "The Dark Knight", it would be a perfect example of a brilliant actor reaching beyond himself to find a way into a character that was way beyond his own behaviour in his own world - and incorporating it, building on it, adding layer upon layer of madness- and presenting it seamlessly with absolutely no consciousness of self in the world of the screenplay. That kind of work can win you an Academy Award. Just ask Meryl Streep.
