SAUDIA ARABIA LIFTED BAN ON POLUTRY PRODUCTS MARCH 13 — Saudi Government has granted permission for import of Pakistani poultry products in the Kingdom, a local newspaper reported. The kingdom had suspended import of eggs and day-old chicks from Pakistan in 2005 due to bird flu disease. pakistan poultry products saudi arabia Saudi Govt lifts ban on import of Pakistan poultry products However, the ban has now been lifted. According to the report, the decision was made after the visit of a four-member technical delegation of Saudi Food and Drug Authority to Pakistan who visited poultry farms, hatcheries and feed mills located in different locations of the country. The team held meetings with representatives of Pakistan Poultry Association and government officials, and observed that ‘standard of poultry facilities in Pakistan is as good as in many European countries’. The lifting of ban on poultry products from Pakistan will not only help boost Pakistan’s poultry export, but facilitate availability of meat in the kingdom that must be from chicken fed only on vegetable-origin feed and are hormone-free. These conditions are very difficult for most Western and European poultry producers to satisfy. saudi poultry consumption Saudi Govt lifts ban on import of Pakistan poultry products According to published reports, Saudi Arabia’s poultry consumption has been steadily growing at an average rate of five per cent annually during the last two decades, with per-capita consumption estimated at 47kg per year. The kingdom has also reportedly established strategic poultry reserves of about 650,000 Metric Tons — sufficient for six months of annual poultry consumption. Export of chicken, hatching eggs and day old chicks from Pakistan to the Kingdom will also enable Pakistan’s poultry sector to get maximum export orders and economic benefits including investment in this sector. Pakistan’s poultry development policy envisages poultry sector growth of 15 to 20pc annually. (MAMOSA Report)
