SAVING OUR ENVIRONMENT ENTAILS DEALING WITH OUR RUBBISH In many districts of Yaoundé, everyone can see at the first glance that the inhabitants are not aware of the duty to protect their environment against dirtiness. Just look around your district and you will see houses’ refuses and papers scattered in the nature, bottles, overflowed dustbins, and everything else you can imagine. Everyone wants to enjoy a fine landscape, but no one wants to bear the burdens of environmental protection. HYSACAM dustcarts regularly carry refuses and dustbins out, but in doing so they still leave dirtiness on the way. Thus, HYSACAM should construct their trucks in such a way that they deal efficiently with their responsibilities. I agree that we cannot conserve refuses in our homes, but the nature is not a great dustbin where we can discharge them. Nature is like our common home. We need places where we can throw refuses in. HYSACAM must introduce a number of dustbins as much as it is required by the flow of refuses coming from houses. Those refuses should be differentiated so as to facilitate their recycling. It is irresponsible to scatter refuses in the nature. The time where we could do it innocently has elapsed. Though, if we do not organize ourselves in our districts, we could not deal efficiently with the environmental protection challenge. We need an organization in our districts that would be concerned by this issue. The tasks of that organization should be defined clearly. One of them is to create and sustain a common conscience that will induce people to comply with their burdens of environment protection. Moreover, agents should inform people about the environmental law and ensure that no refuses else are scattered in the nature. Thus, a systematic daily control should be effective. It still remains an important question which needs to be solved. Some people have gardens or small fields inside their home, and they do not know how they can deal with their rubbish. In view of the fact that they can no longer scatter them in the nature, they should take them to HYSACAM dustbins. The problem is that, those dustbins have not the capacity to contain them. Thus, HYSACAM should design their dustbins in appropriate way in order to satisfy the needs of people and to comply with the burdens of environmental law.
