SAY CHEESE..... On Tuesday, August 20, 2014; the world stood still for a crop of people; a class of professionals, people who are in the arts and science of keeping memories live and alive... We have them at our events and engagements, our parties, picnics, programs and projects. They accost us but sometimes we turn them down for known, unknown and obvious reasons... They help us freeze moments in our lives even till eternity... We see their works in motion and dynamic pictures as well as in static pictures at rest Sometimes, some of them do for free while others at a cost. Looking at it again, some of us take up the jobs they do because it is actually what amateurs as well as non-professionals can do. Technology has also helped us a great deal because the accessories they utilize to perform what they know to do best is already embedded in many of the labor, energy and time saving devices and gadgets we carry about now-a-days... They used to be seen as artisans but recently things have changed as many young elites have began to take up their trade as a vocational enterprise. In fact, we have had many who have made their marks as practitioners practicing the profession... Let us all give kudos to all PHOTOGRAPHERS, PHOTO-JOURNALISTS, JOURNAL-PHOTOGRAPHERS, CAMERA-PERSONS (PROFESSIONALS AND AMATEURS) INCLUDING THE PIONEERS FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL TILL DATE EVEN UNTO THE FUTURE for helping us KEEP RECORDS and STORE PHOTOS IN WHATEVER FORMAT; they also help us reminisce because many of us actually see the transformation that goes on from one stage and phase of life till another, for some only the photos and pictures are left in the memories, hearts and minds about others... This piece is actually a dedication in their honor asking that in that trade they all have chosen, they will prosper, succeed and excel. God will bless them and make them blessings also Let us read through the marble words and see their impacts for ourselves The primary raw materials of photography are LIGHT and TIME -John BERGER “It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.” – Paul Caponigro “What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” ― Karl Lagerfeld “You dont take a photograph, you make it.” ― Ansel Adams “When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.” ― Ansel Adams “You dont make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” ― Ansel Adams “There are no bad pictures; thats just how your face looks sometimes.” ― Abraham Lincoln “A picture is a secret about a secret, the more it tells you the less you know.” ― Diane Arbus “When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” ― Ted Grant “All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.” ― Susan Sontag “A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.” ― Eudora Welty “The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” ― Dorothea Lange To photograph people is to violate them, by seeing them as they never see themselves, by having knowledge of them that they can never have; it turns people into objects that can be symbolically possessed. Just as a camera is a sublimation of the gun, to photograph someone is a subliminal murder - a soft murder, appropriate to a sad, frightened time.” ― Susan Sontag “People spot a big black lens, and they worry about what theyre doing, or how their hair looks. Nobody see the person holding the camera.” ― Erica ORourke, Camera-persons function in between the word ACTION and CUT... They rule behind the camera, the rule the audience and the viewers.... - “A photograph is a moral decision taken in one eighth of a second. ” ― Salman Rushdie, “When I look at my old pictures, all I can see is what I used to be but am no longer. I think: What I can see is what I am not.” ― Aleksandar Hemon “For me, the subject of the picture is always more important than the picture.” ― Diane Arbus “One thing that struck me early is that you don’t put into a photograph what’s going to come out. Or, vice versa, what comes out is not what you put in.” ― Diane Arbus “Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.” ― Imogen Cunningham “Photography is the story I fail to put into words.” – Destin Sparks “The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.” – Andy Warhol “A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.” – Edward Steichen “It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.” – Paul Caponigro Finally CHEESE is for the mouth to be eaten and not to be said....
