SAY NO TO RETRACTABLE LEASHES. Out of the Doghouse Playgroup does not permit their use at playgroup activities for very good reasons. I (Renee) realize some people make use of them in appropriate situations with suitably trained dogs, and have not had bad experiences. I am not posting for debate. If you are making a fully informed choice to use them despite their known dangers, thats up to you. I wont use them, and I will encourage others not to, because theres always that chance of something untoward happening and retractable leashes simply do not provide sufficient control in all situations, including ones in which your dog needs your protection, and they are injurious to both people and pets. So much so that they are sold with use-at-your-own-risk style warnings because so many injuries have taken place including the amputation of fingers.
