SB I-55 Near Sherman to Close Temporarily Due to weather concerns, IDOT has postponed construction work on I-55 from the dates originally scheduled. The new construction schedule is below. Press release from the Illinois Department of Transportation: SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation will be replacing two damaged bridge beams on Sudduth Road over southbound I-55, located a half-mile north of the Sherman Interchange in Sangamon County. Work will involve closing two lanes of southbound I-55 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. June 3-14. The bridge carrying Sudduth Road over I-55 will be completely closed June 3 thru June 14. I-55 will be completely closed to all southbound traffic on June 8 and 9 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. to lift the new bridge beams into place. Southbound traffic will be detoured at Exit 109, Williamsville, onto Illinois Route 123. The detour route is IL 123 to IL 124, to Andrew Road, to Business Loop 55, also known as Sherman Boulevard, back to I-55 at Exit 105 in Sherman.
