SBDE Task Force Recommends NO for Lasers and Hygienists in TX! • SBDE task force met and is NOT supportive of RDH’s using lasers. • Committee states that laser assisted dental hygienists are being used by unethical dentists as a way to increase production. • TWO MEMBERS OF THE 4 MEMBER COMMITTEE DECIDED FOR THE COMMITTEE WITHOUT A VOTE TO RECOMMEND THE SBDE RESCIND THE CURRENT POLICY AND MAKE A RULE ONLY ALLOWING RDH’S TO USE LASERS FOR ASSESSMENT (DIAGNODENT)! • Next state board meeting: August 8th. Dentists who want to continue delegating bacterial elimination by use of lasers to their hygienists are asked to be present and give oral testimony to the SBDE. • Committee concerned about efficacy of lasers and bacterial reduction.
