SBP Denies Operation, Cheques Holders Protest From S.K. Sami Peshawar: - State Bank of Pakistan refused payment of lapsable cheques issued by Accountant General and other Government Departments last night. Large numbers of venders and government employees as holding cheques, protested in front of State Bank here in Peshawar on Saturday for clearance of their cheques. Protestors told that those cheques were issued last night after 07:00 pm while State Bank was remaining closed since Friday 01:00 pm. They also denoted that all those cheques were from the lapsable budget and could not be withdrawn as new fiscal year starts. Meanwhile some of the government official as were present on the occasion; revealed that the Departments had applied one month prior to the Department of Finance for their funds but for bargaining purpose fund was released late hours on 28th June, 2013 which caused late night issuance of cheques to the vendors. The officials further accused the Accountant General office for the delay in sanction and demanding bribery on any cheque’s passing process.
