SBSA Fastpitch League Week 4 Highlights The gloomy skies of this Saturday morning was unforgiving as it brought a heavy downpour upon the Kallang Diamonds. 3 games had to be postponed while what remained was a youthful group of volunteers soaking up the fields in preparation for the next games to be played properly. Thank you to all who have helped out. ORA’s Ng Yun Yi pitched a complete 4 inning game holding down NUS to only one run in an 11-1 victory. Gloria Cheng and Alvina Chow each added a triple that proved too difficult for the defense to handle. However, later in the day, ORA trailed SPARTANS from the beginning in a decisive match where the latter won 15-1 to ensure their chance in the Division 1 Playoffs. SPARTANS raced off to a 10-0 start in the 1st inning with notable 3B hits from Joyce Chan Wan Ling and Sharon Choo Wei Ling. SG RED defeated their peers RVHS 16-1 to make it 2 out of 2 but were stopped short of extending their streak by SRC PELICANS in a 9-4 affair. An exciting display from a determined SG RED put some pressure on the 2012 runners up but the level of experience of the PELICANS paid off well. MEDUSA’s first appearance in the tournament showcased a commanding mixture of international players from Philippines and Indonesia. They brushed aside SONIX 16-0 with Yuka Ramadina and Mary Joy Panagsagan Lasquite each hitting a HR to start their weekend. The last game of Saturday saw NUS going down to ANGELS by a similar score line of 11-1. Dione Bernabe Macasu put the ANGELS on the board with a solo HR with 2 down in the first inning. Nimpa Villafranca Baral continued her hot streak, batting for 3 for 3 with a HR. Keong Yumei made a late substitution to deliver the decisive blow, finishing the game due to the mercy rule. ANGELS began their sunny Sunday with a convincing 10-0 victory over SG WHITE; but all eyes were on Diamond B where the game between SRC PELICANS and MEDUSA took place. It was an international affair with MEDUSA’s Philippines ace, Annalie Benjamen Popong, on the mound against some SG Women’s Team players from SRC PELICANS. Desa Lam held MEDUSA well for the first 2 innings before some defensive lapses awarded the first run in favour of MEDUSA. Popong collected 12Ks in the game while allowing one run to PELICANS’ Teo Jie Ling. SG WHITE stayed in the fight for the Division 1 spot with a 10-4 victory over ORA as they capitalized on the fielding errors for a 7-0 lead in the first inning. SG WHITE will face SPARTANS in their crucial final round robin matchup this coming weekend. RVHS played out the highest scoring match with a 27-6 win over SONIX. The school girls scored 8 runs in the 2nd and 11 runs in the 3rd. Tai Sze Min got on base 5 times and her team mate Seah Yixuan completed a perfect 4-for-4 with 2 bunt singles. The ANGELS recorded a 13-0 over CUDAS in another one-sided mercy rule victory, making a statement of their intent to retain their championship title in 2013. MEDUSA ended their weekend going top of the group with 4 wins out of 4 triumphing 7-0 over SG RED and 14-2 over RVHS. MEDUSA’s lead-off batter Yuka Ramadina continued to be the threat as she put up another 3 for 3 at-bats for the later game. SG RED finished off the round robin, grabbing a 10-0 win over SONIX to place them 3rd of their group and advancing to the Division 2 Playoffs. Round Robin Team Standings: Men’s Division 1 – ORA, NEXUS, SRC HUNTERS, OBOYZ Men’s Division 2 – ROADRUNNERS, SRC RED SOX, SG RED, PLABOM II Women’s Division 1 – ANGELS, MEDUSA, PELICANS, *TBD Women’s Division 2 – ORA, SG RED, FRENZ, *TBD *TBD - SG WHITE v SPARTANS: winner advances to Div 1 while loser advances to Div 2 Hope to see your support at Kallang Diamond this weekend!
