SC association demands reservation in GTA, state assembly MIRIK, 23 Jan 2014: The Indian Indigenous Scheduled Caste Welfare Association today submitted a petition to chief minister Mamata Banerjee to apprise her of problems being faced by the community. Association representatives led by Tika Khati submitted a letter to the CM demanding reservation for SC candidates in the GTA. The association has also demanded reservation in the state assembly for SC candidates from the GTA region. Besides, it has sought enlistment of the community folk dance ‘Maruni’ in the National Folk Dance list. Asserting the SC community of the hills, the Dooars and Terai has a diverse culture, tradition and way of life, the association demanded employment opportunities in the three regions. (EOIC)
