SC notice to Raman govt in Sori case The Supreme Court (SC) Friday sought response from the Chhattisgarh government on bail pleas of tribal teacher Soni Sori and journalist Lingaram Kodopi, jailed for alleged links with Maoists. A Bench of Justices S S Nijjar and F M Ibrahim Kalifulla issued a notice to the state government seeking a reply by October 28, when the case will be heard again. Sori and nephew Kodopi have challenged a Chhattisgarh High Court order denying them bail on July 8. They have been accused of allegedly receiving protection money on behalf of Maoists from the Essar group in Chhattisgarh. The two have been in jail for two years. But for a case of allegedly torching vehicles, in which Sori got bail last May, both have been acquitted in all cases. Sori has been acquitted in six cases in the last one-and-a-half years, while Kodopi has been acquitted in the only other case of planning an attack on local Congress leader Avdesh Gautam. indianexpress/news/sc-notice-to-raman-govt-in-sori-case/1176525/
