SC orders arrest of 33,000 wanted criminals KARACHI: Supreme Court bench hearing Karachi law and order case on Friday ordered the police to arrest 33,000 absconders present in Karachi, ARY News reported. How the law and order could be maintained in presence of these criminals, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said, while ordering immediate arrest of the fugitives. A five-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, hearing the case. During the court proceedings today, prosecutor general Sindh presented a report on Karachi situation before the bench. According to the report, there are over 110,000 absconders in Sindh out of which 33,665 are in Karachi. Justice Khilji remarked how citizens can remain safe in a city when there are 33,000 absconders present. The Chief Justice during the hearing at the SC’s Karachi registry further said that conditions should not have been worsened to such an extent if the police was not tainted by politics. Chief Justice Chaudhry also questioned why assets of the absconders were not seized. Director General Rangers Sindh in his statement in the court said each and every home of Karachi have arms while some people have hundred arms licences.
