SC rejects plea to make PM a party in Coalgate NEW DELHI: New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a plea which has requested that the Prime Minister be made a party in the FIR lodged by the CBI in the coal scam. Refusing to issue any direction to the Prime Minister to file an affidavit on the coal block allocation, the apex court observed that the probe was still going on and it is for CBI officials to look into it. However, the SC accepted CBIs plea and allowed it to add one more officer in the team which is conducting probe in coal blocks allocation scam. The CBI had moved the Supreme Court on Monday seeking its permission to include one more officer in the team of 39 officials conducting probe in coal blocks allocation scam. The agency filed the application as the apex court had directed it that no changes to be made in the team of officers probing the multi-crore scam. The opposition has been demanding the PMs resignation since the national auditor said in 2012 that Rs. 1.86 lakh crores were lost because the government did not auction coal fields. Earlier this month, the agency said that in 2005, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and former Coal Secretary PC Parakh conspired to ensure that the entrepreneurs firm, Hindalco, was given two coal blocks in Odisha. The PMs office has accepted that he endorsed that decision, which it described in a statement as entirely appropriate. Last week, Dr Manmohan Snigh said that he is willing to be questioned by the CBI. I have nothing to hide, he told reporters.
