SCAAEP presenting 2 valuable equine clinics: Saturday September 21st, 2013: Large Animal Emergency Preparedness Short Course SCAAEP is hosting a Large Animal Emergency Preparedness Clinic on Saturday September 21st . We’ve been able to get a great speaker and instructor, Eric Thompson from Code 3 associates, out to put on this clinic and we’re excited to share the opportunity with all of you. The day will consist of approximately 3 hours of lecture in the morning, then a provided lunch followed by 3 hours of hands on work with the ropes, drags, dummy horse, and other emergency equipment that Eric will be bringing along. Space is limited though for the hands on work, so only the first 30 people will be able to participate in the hands on portion. We do have PLENTY of space for people to audit and watch the hands on portion, so it will definitely still be worth your time. The cost is $45 for full day with hands on, and $30 for full day with audit. Please get your forms in ASAP in order to make sure you get a spot! Normally these clinics go for upwards of $150 per person, so we’ve worked hard to get this here for you guys at a GREAT price! There are only 6 spots left for the hands on portion, so get your registrations in soon! Auditing is also an option as well. Non-vet students are also welcome to attend, so if you have any friends that are interested please have them fill out a registration as well. You DO NOT have to be a member of SCAAEP to attend (nor will there be any extra fees for non-members)! The techniques learned in this short course can be applied to all large animals, and is not exclusive to horses. Again, the clinic is on Saturday, September 21st and lunch is included in your registration fee. Please either email or mail your registration form, and it would be preferable to mail payment ahead of time. Interested participants can email me at [email protected] or KSU.SCAAEP@gmail. They can mail payment and registration forms to: Hannah Leventhal Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine 101 Trotter Hall Manhattan, KS 66506. I’ve attached the brochure for the event, but if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to email me. As an extra bonus, Eric Thompson will be bringing BART (Big Animal Rescue Truck) with them and it will be on display during the event. This truck has the ability to be at any location in the lower 48 within 40 hours, and hold an 11 man team for 1 week without requiring outside supplies. Recently, they were down in Georgia responding to an emergency situation. This is a great opportunity to see a fantastic rig and everything that rescuers can do with the proper equipment. More info can be found at: code3associates.org/animal-rescue-truck.html Saturday October 19th, 2013: Horsemanship for Humans Clinic SCAAEP is hosting a groundwork clinic on Saturday October 19th. We’re bringing out Jerry Williams, a licensed Parelli instructor, to run the clinic. The day will consist of a morning of talks and demonstrations. The afternoon will involve break-out sessions with horses. Space is limited to do the live horse break-out sessions, so only the first 35 people that sign up as full-day wet-lab participants will be able to participate in the hands-on portion. We do have PLENTY of space for people to audit and watch the hands on portion, so it will still be worth your time! Again, we are inviting the community and anyone that works with horses to this event. The cost is $35 for the full day with hands on for all non-KSU students, $35 for the full day of auditing (no hands-on participation) for non-KSU students, and is free for all KSU students. Lunch IS INCLUDED with your registration fee! Please either email or mail your registration form, and preferably send your payment prior to the event. Interested participants can email me at [email protected] or KSU.SCAAEP@gmail. They can mail payment and registration forms to: Hannah Leventhal Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine 101 Trotter Hall Manhattan, KS 66506. I’ve attached the brochure for the event. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have.
