SCAM ALERT ON PHOTO SHARING APP Detectives attached to Sydney City LAC - NSW Police Force would like to warn the public about a scam on a photo sharing app advertising items for sale but failing to deliver. The scam usually works by an account posting a photo of a product for sale. When someone indicates theyd like to buy this product, the account provides the buyer with information on how to pay. The person makes the payment, but finds the account has now been closed down and no further correspondence is received. The scammer/s then set up another account advertising an item for sale and continue the cycle. Warning signs: - The account has only been set up recently. - The account has few followers. - Information on the account is vague, and its hard to verify the persons identity. - A product is advertised at a very low price. - The account insists on immediate payment, or payment by electronic funds transfer or a wire service. Remember the rule of thumb: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If youre not sure whether an ad is a scam, please do NOT transfer money to anyone - theres a good chance you wont get it back. If in doubt, please contact your local police and visit SCAMwatch for scam warnings: scamwatch.gov.au/conte…/index.phtml/itemId/693900
