SCARED OF MY SHADOW Amazing. Just watched this on the Documentary Channel and highly recommend it. A father is wondering if he should let his young daughter walk to school alone. A mother allows her nine year old son to take the subway to school in New York and she is criticized and ostracized. She writes a book titled How to Raise Free Range Kids. A statistician tells the audience that the world is a safer place. John Walsh, host of Americas Most Wanted and The Hunt describes the abduction and murder of his 6 year old son and the effect on his life. He does not think the world is a safer place. Another expert says the word is safer but acts of violence are magnified way out of proportion by the media to seem much more prevalent than they are in reality. Fear sells products better than any other stimulus. It describes the bubble-wrapped children we are raising, children who are not learning how to go to the store by themselves. The effect of fear on the psyche, a constant warning light flashing at the back of your mind. A while ago, I posted about the violence in our society. Somebody had the audacity to say the world was a safer place than 40 years ago. I disqualified what he said with the statistics of classroom shootings that have risen dramatically in the last 40 years. Now I am not sure what the truth is. Is the world safer and the violence amplified for television ratings? Are the school shootings just an insignificant blip on the graph of violence in society? What about road rage? I dont remember that from 40 years ago. I suppose it the hallmark of a good documentary when you are left with more questions than answers. It is definitely worth watching.
