SCBA letter on overcrowding in courts to Secretary General: 1. While expressing our appreciation for the steps undertaken by you for removing congestion in the court rooms and corridors by opening extra exit doors in court room Nos.2, 3 and 4, placing wooden racks in front of all court rooms, better cleanliness and placing coolers in the corridors, we request for your further cooperation to help in easing the congestion in corridors and court rooms and to make it more comfortable for the members of the Bar on the following issues: i). We request for placing extra wooden racks at some more places in front of the court rooms, so that all files and bags can be placed on the racks and the corridors are completely freed up. ii). You are requested to place a few more coolers at the ends of the corridors as it is a considerable respite from the heat. iii) You are requested to place more chairs at designated places in the corridors, so that more people can comfortably wait outside the courtrooms. iv). Kindly direct the court rooms which are not in session to be kept open for the members of the bar, so that members can wait in the empty court rooms for their matters to reach, while keeping a check on display boards. v) You are also requested to place coolers/fans next to the coffee kiosks at two places, between Court room No.10-8 and Court Room No.9-11. vi). We also request you to explore the option of opening a second exit door in the other court rooms also. vii) As a long term solution, you are also requested to explore the possibility of linking the corridors of the front court rooms with the corridors of back court rooms, by creating two external walkways next to the court room No.5 and court room No.4. This walkway may be in sync with the building architecture of the Supreme Court of India and will complete the round corridors, easing the congestion to a large extent. viii) I also request you to explore the possibility of removal of partition and gate next to the court No.4, which leads to the passage which goes to the court rooms at the back. This narrow place becomes a bottleneck restricting easy passage for the members of the Bar. 2. You will appreciate that this problem, which becomes more acute on Mondays, Fridays and even Tuesdays, can turn into a potential disaster during any emergency. 3. Please find attached a copy of the circular dated 16.09.2014 issued by the SCBA to its members seeking their cooperation in trying to manage this extremely difficult problem created by increase in footfall by manifolds. Aishwarya Bhati Hony. Secretary
