SCCAOR Press Release:SCCAOR Leadership Attends National Association of REALTORS® Conference in San Francisco SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 21, 2013 – The Santa Clara County Association of REALTORS® leadership team, including President Carl San Miguel, CEO Neil Collins and President-elect Myron Von Raesfeld, represented SCCAOR members at the National Association of REALTORS® Conference & Expo, which was held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco Nov. 8th through 11th. The annual event gives REALTORS® the opportunity to learn about what’s happening in the industry, and to network and grow their business. About 20,000 real estate professionals from all over the world attended this year. “Not only can they browse the Expo to check out the hundreds of vendors pitching their products, but they can indulge in the many seminars offered to attendees,” San Miguel said. “It is also a unique opportunity to participate in the many structured committee meetings held by the NAR leadership.” Speakers included NAR President Gary Thomas, NAR Chief Economist and Senior VP of Research Lawrence Yun, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “They offer some of the top speakers in the nation on real estate issues as well as real estate practice,” said SCCAOR NAR Director Dave Walsh. “Lawrence Yun did several fabulous presentations on the California housing picture and what’s happening housing wise-nationally.” The biggest issue covered at the conference was rising flood insurance rates, said SCCAOR NAR Director Karl Lee. “There are a couple of pieces of legislation going through Congress (on this issue),” Lee said. “Rates are going up significantly. You can get four different quotes on the same property. The insurance companies are supposed to be using a specific FEMA chart.” Another topic covered at the conference was rising mortgage rates. Rates for a 30-year-fixed loan are expected to exceed 5 percent by the end of 2014. “That’s a significant increase from where we are now,” Lee said. “Now we’re kind of in the low 4s.” Additionally, NAR announced that it has been working on a .REALTOR domain for REALTORS® to use in their email addresses. “There is so much to do and so much information,” Lee said. “You kind of go through a detox afterward.”
